Procrastination Does Not Make a Good Friend

She had accumulated a massive collection of shoulds, oughts, and one-of-these-days. The collection was not an asset. Rather, it had become a debilitating burden.

In a moment of spiritual desperation, she prayed, “What should I do?”

The answer came back with immediate force and clarity, “Do what you’re afraid to do.” Blatant truth? Voice of God? Something from deep within? Yes.

So, she scrambled to write out her thoughts, sort through the rubbish and grasp that long elusive peace of mind. Some of these procrastinated items needed to be let go, and some required action. She determined to focus for 3 days, tackling the things she was afraid to do.

And as it turned out, they weren’t that scary after all. In fact, some of the work she had been putting off was accomplished with much greater ease than she had imagined. A few items required the input and help of other people. This, too, proved easier than she had feared.

Her 3 day project turned into 10 and then into a new way of life. Sure, she still encountered problems and fear, but she was learning a new normal.

The kind of normal that reminded her to do what she was afraid to do.

Worth Repeating

Fear is only as deep as the mind allows.
