Early Morning Humor at Dunkin’ Donuts

My best days begin with exercise, spiritual focus, and writing, followed by a healthy breakfast at home.

This was not one of those days.

No, this was a Monday morning, sleep in late, and run through Dunkin’ Donuts kind of morning. After ordering a bacon wrap, raspberry filled donut, and coffee, I pulled up to the drive thru window, still in somewhat of a stupor. The lady in the window was more jovial than expected as she took my money and leaned back out with my order.

“Here’s your coffee, and here’s your donut and your wrap,” she declared and shut the window. Two seconds later the window opened, and she stopped me from driving off with, “Wait a minute, sir! I still need to get your wrap. That was just the donut. Hang with me, we’re gonna get through this!”

I laughed. We’re gonna get through this? That’s a sentence I’ve never heard in a drive thru. Moments later, an Oklahoma grade gust of 30+mph wind whooshed by just as she opened the window and leaned out with my bacon wrap, almost blowing the food away, and sending several napkins flying for Kansas.

“Oh, Lordy Jesus!” she proclaimed.

Since she had summoned such a spiritual moment, I quickly and enthusiastically replied, “Amen!” And we laughed.

As I pulled away, now fully awake and repositioned for the day, I heard her inform her co-workers, “Ya’ll, I just made that man smile!”

And she did. She may have even made your day as well.
