What adversity have you faced in your life?
Think for a moment, perhaps back even forty years, of all types of challenges you have faced in your life.
It may be that some experiences got the best of you, but I would be very surprised if you hadn’t ultimately or eventually overcome some significant adversity at some point along the way.
What did it take to get through it?
Faith, grace, determination, assistance, hard work, forgiveness, resilience? I suspect it took a mix of many of these.
Now, what adversity are you currently facing? How will you dig deep and draw on those same resources to overcome once again?
Froma Walsh says that resilience can be defined as the capacity to rebound from adversity strengthened and more resourceful.
Embrace this idea! You can do it! If you get knocked down, you get back up again and in so doing, you live out your capacity for resilience.
Worth Repeating
If you will call your troubles experiences, and remember that every experience develops some latent source within you, you will grow vigorous and happy, however adverse your circumstances may seem to be.
