New experience.

The doorbell rings. As I open the door, I witness a semi truck easing down the street and a guy in our yard asking if I’d like to buy some North Carolina furniture.

Door to door furniture sales? Really?

For a second, the thought of a new bedroom flashes through my mind. Thinking better of it, I decline.

Through the years, I have had people attempt to sell me cleaning services, lawn services, tv packages, school fundraisers, religion, cookies, newspapers, new roofs, and much more. Frankly, I have never enjoyed the experience. It always strikes me as an intrusion. And, the few times I have bought, I felt like I got burned.

But, I don’t want to be impolite. I realize these people are just trying to get by, or even make a living. Generally, I do not think they have chosen well with their work, but I understand that at least for this week, this is their job. I even wish them well at the other houses, after explaining that I do not buy anything by the door to door method anymore.

I’ve considered getting a “No soliciting” sign, but I don’t like the thought of all guests to our home seeing “No” upon their arrival. I’m more of a “Yes” kind of person.

So, I’d like to ask for your suggestions on creative, yet kind ways to end these “doorbell surprises.” I’d prefer a humorous idea.

Please send your suggestions to Bruce@BruceMcIntyre.com and I’ll share some of the best ones next week.

Worth Repeating

I think the scariest person in the world is the person with no sense of humor.
