Recently, I heard this interesting perspective on our postures toward love:
The young are excited and enamored with the possibilities of love.
The middle-aged tend to often be disillusioned.
And the old are appreciative for love.
While these descriptions may be severely over-generalized, I think this makes sense. And, I am deciding now (at the ripe old middle age of 42) to go ahead a transition to the third stage.
I want to be appreciative for love.
And I think I am. I appreciate my wife’s friendship. Through joy and through struggle, we’ve been able to talk about everything. I appreciate her warmth, concern, humor, and mischievousness!
Even at this early point in life, I suspect that I could think back and savor thousands of moments.
How about you?
