Once again, joy emerges from the ordinary
The merry postal worker took me by surprise. Usually a rather antiseptic, even grumpy environment, the post office on this particular day was jumping! Or, should I say, one particular postal worker was jumping and dancing and even threw in a twirl.
As he grooved to the Jackson five tune “ABC,” those of us in the long line watched with wonder. Enough wonder to overcome the requisite disdain for standing in said long line.
He had a silver speckled goatee and receding hairline. And alarmingly good moves for a man of about 60. Perhaps he had a little something to drink on his break? But, I shouldn’t assume things like that. It’s just that I don’t know his source of joy on this particular day.
What I do know is that his joy was infectious, emerging from the ordinary and leaving us all with a nice surprise.
Worth Repeating
Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.
-Joseph Campbell
