How you can “take a licking and keep on ticking”
Empty tank, overdrawn account, too much on your plate.
It happens. To pretty much everyone at some point along the way.
And there are certainly more than 3 secrets to perseverance through adversity. But, here are 3 to get you started:
1. Hit the “RERESH” button. Get up, get out, and renew your perspective. Exercise, pray, journal, or howl at the moon! Trade out the self-defeating self talk for intentionally hopeful and truthful messaging. Yes, this requires a bit of persistence and determination on your part. Some folks have lists of messages they refer to in their Evernote apps, journal, or sticky notes. Others use affirming passages of scripture and spiritual messages. If you are slugging your way through a particularly tough season, you may need to hit the RERESH button several times per day, but don’t give up!
2. Remember past perseverance. You’ve made it through something before! So, you can do it again. Remember that experience and what helped you survive last time.
3. Decide what you’re going to do and do it! Whoa! Don’t make a list of 31 things. Make a list of 1-3 things that you can do today and do them. As you act on what you have decided, you will feel better and make progress in the right direction. You have enough energy, faith, and courage for today!
Worth Repeating
Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.
