Observations on a few of the ones I know
Her energy and enthusiasm precede her greeting. She is the founder and owner of Vintage Coffee and she knows my order. Small decaf Americano, perhaps with a chocolate covered biscotti.
I tend to gravitate toward exceptional baristas. Whether they are caffeinated or not, I do not know. But, I appreciate their infectious energy. And at this coffee shop in my new routine, her energy is noticeable.

He makes a difference every time he comes to our office. He is living with Parkinson’s and must be careful to time his medication just right to make it through voice therapy or choir rehearsal.
But for whatever may be going wrong in his world, he enters our doors to make things better for other people. And, I am grateful for the seeds of joy that he sows.

He has a new story every time we talk! His great success in politics, business, and higher education has been interspersed with seasons of significant struggle.
Yet, he still has new stories! He may have been down, but he didn’t stay down.
And perhaps that is one of my primary observations about happy people: they get back up and live again anyway.
