Refreshment arrives every morning
Near dawn, I ambled my way through the trail around Lake Placid at Chickasaw State Park in Henderson, Tennessee. As usual at this time of year, the first one on the trail gets to knock down all of the spider webs…whether on purpose or as unwelcome surprises across your face.
Still, the deep earthy aroma of these woods along with the sounds of geese, crickets, and fish jumping in the nearby lake trump any spiderweb inconvenience.
As is often the case, I hiked along stewing on lesser thoughts, but intent on breaking into higher thoughts. About half a mile into the trail, I emerged from the woods onto a grand point overlooking the water.
Aptly named, the surface of Lake Placid was profoundly calm. And as I stood there for a moment taking it all in, the morning light broke over the tree line and across the waters. Glistening with remarkable elegance on this crisp September morning, my breathing slowed down, and a contented smile crept across my face.
I saw the light. And it was good.
The moment called forth better thoughts of gratitude, faith, and peace. So, I remained in the warm hold of this beautiful moment for as long as I could.
With the exception of cloudy or rainy days, most mornings bring the light. In fact, I suspect that I see about one hundred sunrises each year, and each one holds the same magic. But, a few times a year, I get to enjoy this refreshment from the edge of Lake Placid. And it is special.
Seeing the light. I recommend it.
Worth Repeating
There was never a night or a problem that could defeat a sunrise or hope.
