Talking yourself into better Attitude, Belief, and Choice
Anyway.
When life deals you reason for discouragement, doubt, and delay, and it will, what do you do? Honestly, you probably live with it a little bit. You’re not sure what to do. But at some point, you decide that you’re not okay with staying this way. So, you lean into the adversity and do something anyway.
Beneath the surface, you are exercising the ABC’s of Anyway.
Attitude. Yes, it sounds trite. But it is not. This is profound. Yes, the swirl of circumstances seems to strangle your ability to reign in your thoughts, but you can do it. You do not need anyone’s permission to change your attitude. Try this: Identify a problem attitude about work, another person, yourself, etc. Then, focus for 5 minutes on intentionally shifting your thoughts. You can actually do this! Soon, can’t becomes anyway.
Belief. We believe all kinds of things. So, listen. To this situation right now. What do you believe about it? Is this your best belief about God, yourself, or others? When you identify lesser beliefs like “I’ll never…We can’t…God won’t…” and replace them with better beliefs like “I still have something to learn…I can do this…God will help me…” then you are entering the belief of anyway.
Choice. Blame is convenient, but usually worthless. Choice is challenging, but empowering. Make one choice today in the direction of anyway and then take action in that direction.
You can do this!
Worth Repeating
Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms-to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.
-Viktor Frankl
