Spiritual Tools for Caregivers (and other people too!)
Today, you have enough. Enough love, enough energy, enough courage to get to the end of the day and manage everything that comes your way, at least for today.
The Bible tells of the Israelites in the wilderness after escaping Egyptian rule. They were hungry and as the Bible explains, God provided manna each morning for them to eat. However, they could not hoard a week’s worth or even two day’s worth. But every morning, there was always enough for that day.
Enough for the day. How much could this one concept calm your anxiety about medical bills, fear of disease progression, and all of the ominous issues that riddle our minds with angst? Not to say that peering into the future and planning is not a wise task, but when fear of the future dominates our minds, it is time to become present. And receive enough for this day.
I have found this prayer to be one of the most important tools in my spiritual toolbox. Initially, I found that I had trouble believing it. But, I kept repeating it until I did. When I awake to a daunting day, I remind myself that I have enough for this day.
When you believe that you have enough, you say things and thinks things that get you through the day and help you transcend the difficult moments. You regain perspective. You move into the here and now, knowing that you are more than adequate for the task at hand.
Pray this prayer over and over, day after day, until you can believe it and receive it:
Thank you for giving me enough for today. Thank you for giving me enough for today.
