8 Words for Those Who Care
For many family caregivers, the notion of self-care seems counterintuitive. You might even feel a twinge of guilt for resting, exercising, or doing something to rejuvenate. But, if you don’t, you’ll burn out faster.
In this spirit, today’s word is self-care. The following three suggestions will help guide you:
Rule 1: Do something for yourself, by yourself, at least weekly, if not daily. This doesn’t even have to cost a dime. Do something that re-energizes you.
Rule 2: Connect with people who fill your cup. Initiate contact with people who make you laugh and put your mind at ease. Invite them to breakfast, coffee, or dinner. Your people may be a small group, support group, Bible study group, or dinner group.
Rule 3: Smart people ask for help. You will need people who can do things you can’t and who know things you don’t. Think of it as more of a consult.
Today, you have permission to care for you!
Worth Repeating
Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.
