Better Questions #1
Swept up in the forces around us at any given season of life, you may find that a return to this question helps stabilize and prioritize your world. What is a good day?
Whether balancing too many demands, managing a life-threatening illness, or experiencing acute chaos, go back to the basics of your values. Here are a few ideas on fleshing out an answer to the question:
What is most important to you? For most people, family, faith, health, service, friends, etc. top the list. Make your own list in priority order. If your days are dictated by forces that are absent from your priorities, begin the process of reordering your world. Pursue what is most important to you.
Right here, right now, how can you incorporate your values into today? Even in bite sized pieces, how do you do what you value today? What is realistic? What is daring? Design your day.
What is in your control and what is not? Some parts of your day or your circumstances may still be unideal. No one wants to be battling illness, doing work they dislike, or managing multiple crises, but it happens anyway. But even in the midst of chaos, what is still in your control? Where can you carve out moments or insert space for what you love?
What is your good day right now at this moment in life?
Worth Repeating
You may not control life’s circumstances, but getting to be the author of your life means getting to control what you do with them.
