Resilient Life #1
You will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Jesus said that. But, I would like to add some important elements. You will know the truth, the truth will hurt quite a bit, and then if you face it and do something about it, the truth will set you free.
Most of us prefer fantasy and avoidance–until those shocking moments when we must face reality. Why? It’s tough. But, telling the truth about your situation is essential to becoming resilient.
Simply put, facing reality can be painful. Perhaps the greatest source of discomfort is in admitting that we have a problem. In families, this truth is especially difficult to accept.
Dr. Froma Walsh points out, “No family is problem free. What distinguishes healthy families is not the absence of problems or suffering, but rather their coping and problem solving abilities.” Some problems are ultimately minor, others significantly major. Whatever your challenges, they are major to you.
Put your finger on the pulse of the problem and tell the truth about it.
