Taking Care of You #4

You may already be using one or more of these. Each one takes your mind off of problems and leads you to refocus.

Pet Therapy. Your dog greets you warmly with no judgment every time. Petting and playing with dogs, cats, or most any pet takes your mind away from your troubles and gives you a new focus. Pets are natural de-stressors.

Music Therapy. When you turn on your favorite music, you focus your mind elsewhere. When you pick up the guitar, sit down at the piano, or sing in the shower, you are rehabilitating your thoughts. Playing an instrument or singing requires a shift in focus.

Art Therapy. The act of creating requires your full attention. Even observing and pondering artistic creations slides your mental processes into a better groove.

You may think of other activities that generate similar results for you. Each of these may be used most effectively with a certified or trained professional in that specific area, who knows how to fully utilize the potential and tools of each approach. This trio of de-stressors, even if practiced on your own however, provides easy access to fresh thinking.
