Exercises for enhancement #3
What happens when you look past the surface to the second, third and fourth levels?
You discover details that were there all along, but so easily missed. Granular reflections can be focused on anything: feelings, beliefs, objects, people, processes. You probably already do this. The internal dialogue might look something like this:
#1 Mountain stream. This is an exquisitely beautiful mountain stream. I see the areas of rushing white water over the rocks and the calm eddys and pools of water at the sides of the stream. I see the reflection of the overhanging tree in that calm pool of water. And now I see a trout near the bottom of that eddy. I notice some type of insect light on the surface and I witness the trout rise to the surface to make that insect a snack.
#2 Anger. I blew up. Why did I blow up? Was I really mad at him? Not really. I am actually overwhelmed with everything so I lashed out at him. Plus, I haven’t taken any time or space for myself in days which leaves me frayed. That’s why I lost my self-control. So, I need to re-prioritize first things first to maintain and nurture my own equilibrium. And, I need to apologize to him.
You see how this goes. It doesn’t take long. But, taking a beat to do a granular reflection, several levels deep, can help you quickly reorient and realign. Engaging this type of exercise may enhance your ability to see, to resolve, to improve.
