Return to Gratitude

What were your wins in 2021? Large or small, take a moment to recognize the things that went well.

Naturally, in the ongoing paradox of life, you also dealt with failure, bad news and disappointment. But meanwhile, you experienced some good things too, maybe even some incredible things. What were they?

Maybe you carved out more space for spiritual renewal this year or engaged in learning. Did you conquer those stubborn 5-10 pounds, even for part of the year? Did you follow your plans to do regular cardio or a fitness routine?

What adventures did you have? Was there a trip or getaway that you enjoyed? Perhaps you had some good local outings with friends or maybe you initiated crucial moments of encouragement for a friend or family member. Did you help someone else reach one of their goals?

What hard things did you do this year? If you provided any level of care for a loved one, or held someone’s hand through their adversity, you should take a moment to recognize that you showed up. Even if the challenge did not resolve perfectly, you were there.

Did you tackle big projects at work, hit any milestones or engage in new training? Maybe you went the extra mile on a side hustle to generate additional income. Did you pay any debts, save some money, spend frugally or give generously?

What did you create this year? Who did you serve? How did you lead?

If you can come up with even a few wins for 2021, take a moment to return to gratitude. Be proud of yourself for doing good things. Don’t rush through it. Bask in it for a bit. Soak up this profound sense of appreciation and thankfulness.

Worth Repeating

Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
