Why?
The history of the spiritual walk has been trod by millions of people for millions of reasons. But ultimately, the reasons boil down to a few…perhaps even just one.
Peace.
Inner, spiritual peace. The kind that emanates in the form of an involuntary, contented smile when it is finally realized.
Cheryl Strayed had many “life crash” reasons to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. Her story ultimately led to several books and the movie, Wild. Walden pond received its share of transcendentalist authors and thinkers on similar quests.
The same motivation has prompted monastic movements, pilgrimages, and long treks. On the other hand, most have gone in search of peace on field roads, city parks, and back yards.
But it seems that most of these walks have ultimately not been about the exercise. The search for peace has served as the impetus.
So, as you walk, walk spiritually. Slow down, receive, engage in good mental exercises. And know why you’re out there.
For peace.
Worth Repeating
Thoughts come clearly while one walks.
