Places #1
Do you have places that help you create calm? Places that prompt better thought and perspective?
When I visit my family in Tennessee, I look forward to at least one morning meandering along the trails around Lake Placid at Chickasaw State Park near Henderson, Tennessee. Aptly named, this lake is always calm on the surface, still and peaceful.
As I hike through swampy areas, up to prominent lookouts and out on the bridge, my senses are awakened with the scent of moist earth and the sounds of song birds. But the irresistible draw comes from the various views of the lake, with the sunrise playing off the surface of the water, reflecting the surrounding trees.
The result is calm…peace…a reorientation of perspective. So I come back, again and again to think, pray and breathe. Our sacred places are like that. They instantly activate our mental memory to propel us into better thoughts and rhythms.
