Thanksgiving #2

If you have difficulty identifying reasons to be grateful, start small. Look around you. Even the most mundane items can spur a sense of appreciation.

On multiple occasions when I am attempting to reframe my thoughts, I look around my backyard and I am thankful again and again for our fountain that emits gurgling, soothing sounds. I think of the kids playhouse and am grateful for the years they squealed with delight in our backyard. I glance around at a bamboo windchime, the River Birch, and a patio table that has offered a space for many a grilled summer meal.

Moving inside, I list the fireplace, my old recliner and our small study. For 14 years, we have enjoyed the spaces and details of this house…things that can easily be taken for granted, but which we longed for and were once elated to finally have.

You can be grateful for the same things, relationships, accomplishments, and experiences over and over. Start small, look around you. Even small things can help you reframe your thoughts.
