Defining Your Values #2
Spiritual, cognitive and physical health and freedom. I really value these.
When you live in sync with love, joy and peace, everything is better. Your perspective on yourself, others and the world improves dramatically. Sometimes the motivation to move into these higher spiritual modes comes from experiencing the opposite: persistent anger, unhappiness and angst. But, you can pull out of the downward spiral and initiate a better trajectory for your spiritual health. Begin today. Engage in spiritual exercises and practices that move your thoughts in the direction of love, joy and peace.
If you need a guide, I can do that. Or, follow the 39 exercises for creating calm in my book, Receiving Peace.
In close conjunction to spiritual health, how is your cognitive health? What are you feeding your brain? For the past ten years or so, I have begun every day with spiritual, cognitive and physical exercise. I highly recommend that you engage early in your day with at least 5 minutes of brain exercises such as Wordle, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, or perhaps engaging in a free app or games on your phone such as Elevate, Impulse or one of many, many others. Ideally, you want to give your brain verbal, analytical, and memory work. Not all necessarily on the same day, but over time.
Intertwined with all of this is your physical health. Today, you are where you are. How can you think proactively about how you will eat and move today? A little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing. But of course, a more challenging plan is even better. Have you ever noticed that fruits, vegetables, lean protein, legumes and whole grains actually satiate your hunger and ultimately make you feel better than anything that comes in a wrapper? Likewise, lack of movement leads nowhere good. The research on this is replete. Thousands of articles have proven over and over that exercise and movement push the needle in the right direction. So, if you’re doing great, keep it up! If not, add one good food today and find at least one way to get some exercise and movement such as a short walk or a spin on an exercise bike.
Spiritual, cognitive and physical health and freedom are well worth the pursuit. So much of your life flows from these. You can take positive steps to receive and thrive today!
