Tis the Season #2
On the way back from a presentation, I stopped along the interstate at a Long John Silver’s attached to a gas station. I know, suspect already. Sometimes what you’re hungry for can surprise you.
Easing into a booth, I noticed the only other two customers seated nearby. Both had canes and appeared to be veterans of widowhood. Since they were broadcasting their conversation, I didn’t even try to eavesdrop. Their stories arrived relentlessly at my ears. The topics ranged from the quality of the food this week vs. last week; deals that could be had at the local grocery; and the misadventures of the ne’er-do-well Billy Craig JXXXXX (last name withheld.) This went on at such a rapid and energetic rate that I’m not sure how or when they ate their food.
Nonetheless, they did eventually rise from their table, chat with the restaurant manager, and click their canes as they departed victoriously.
As I sat and reflected on my brief introduction to these two ladies that I simply must refer to as “Thelma and Louise”, it hit me. While the details of some of their stories were quite fascinating, their joy came from being together, no matter how mundane or insane the topics of conversation.
Everybody needs a buddy. I’m glad Thelma and Louise have each other. And I hope you find your buddy too!
Worth Repeating
Things are never quite as scary when you’ve got a best friend.
