Facing Fears #1

“Fear and courage are not mutually exclusive,” Brene Brown articulates so precisely.

You may tend to think that the courageous do not experience fear or that if you have fear, you are not courageous. But, this is not so. The difference comes not from the feeling of fear, but with how you respond to it.

Fear and courage come in all shapes and sizes. To be sure, all of them are significant and noteworthy.

If you want to avoid a phone call or a person or a decision, you are wrestling with this. But, have you noticed that when you eventually acknowledge the truth of the situation and take that trepidatious step to do whatever needs to be done, you feel like you did the right thing? Often, our apprehension diminishes with action. Of course, it will arise again for this or some other situation, but the practice of facing your fears nurtures your sense of courage. You get better at taking action.

What do you fear or what is causing apprehension for you now? Think about it, and determine how to respond. Perhaps, the first step is to ask someone else who seems to have dealt with a similar challenge. Then, make the first right move.

Worth Repeating

Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.
