Noticing #5

Last week, my wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We were determined to go slow and enjoy the moment. Along the way, we noticed and experienced the good in ways such as:

  • Lovely conversation with a couple from Ohio as we ate outside at the Plaza Cafe Downtown.
  • Hearing about a Denver lady’s 30 day quest to visit more national parks.
  • Listening to music in the Santa Fe Plaza.
  • Talking with an upbeat 80 year old couple from California in the French Pastry Shop literally hearing him pontificate on always finding the good in people.
  • Sharing encouragement with a teacher from Michigan while sitting on a bench.
  • Eating exquisite food at places like Pink Adobe, La Boca and more.
  • Hiking the Dale Ball North Trail for a splendid view of the city.
  • Shopping and buying gifts with backstories for our children.
  • Chuckling through an amusing performance of Laughs in Spanish at the Santa Fe Playhouse.
  • Appreciating thought provoking creations of all types of art.

It is so easy to notice the bad things. Sometimes it seems that life is filled with the difficult and discouraging. However, a change of pace can help you refocus on the good in the world. Pressing pause on our hectic lives to celebrate in a beautiful location put us in a position to notice and experience the good over and over. I hope your quest to find the good is as fruitful as ours was.

Worth Repeating

Life is a succession of moments, to live each one is to succeed.
