Proactive and Reactive #1
Since it’s March Madness basketball time and the opening weeks of Major League Baseball, I’m thinking about sports. Offense and defense are both crucial to winning. And in your own life, these postures are essential as well.
If you feel like your life is reeling out of control, you may have fallen into a reactive mode, just managing and fighting things off as they come at you. When you find yourself in such a season, ask how you can go on the offensive.
Do you need to get up and get your day started earlier? Is there one or perhaps a few small wins that you could attain early in the day? When considering a problem or conflict, what move could you make to regain control of the situation?
Playing offense is all about taking action. Be smart, consider your steps, but don’t wait around too long. Get to it.
What if you tackled that pile of bills and papers? Could you turn your long to-do list over and place a single small sticky note on the blank side with one task to accomplish?
Overwhelm leads to inaction which causes us to feel powerless. But, the proverbial ball is in your court. You can choose to make progress and make something happen. Even one small thing can be the catalyst that leads you out and onward.
How will you play offense today?
Worth Repeating
Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.
