Mastering the Art of…#1
Why is it so hard to let things go?
Grievances, failures, bad relationships…why do we cling to them? Perhaps the better question is this: How can you master the art of letting things go?
Consider some of these notions gleaned from the writing of Robin Sharma:
- See the past as training. Your past was “perfect preparation” to make you who you are today. Instead of viewing setbacks as failures, work to see them as necessary lessons that strengthened and purified you.
- Forgive your “spiritual professors.” View people who hurt you as “spiritual professors” who taught you the lessons needed for your growth. Releasing resentment removes their power over your future.
- Practice emotional release. Literally hold the pain in your mind and release it as you breathe out, over and over.
- Talk Through Your Pain: Suppressing pain leads to toxic, stored energy. Discussing pain with a trusted advisor or mentor to release it can help you make significant strides.
- Avoid Victimhood: Victims cling to the past, while leaders (or heroes) move into the future by letting go of resentment.
- Journaling and Meditation: Use journaling and meditation to process and release emotional energy.
- Take Intentional Breaks: Build in “imaginary holidays” (visualization) and take regular walks in nature.
- “Use” the Past: Instead of being ruined by the past, leverage it to build wisdom and “rise to legendary” status.
Perhaps one or more of these ideas resonates with you. Lean into it, practice it and master the art of letting things go.
Worth Repeating
Forget what hurt you, but never forget what it taught you.
