Have you ever listened to your inner dialogue? Your self
talk? Those almost subconscious messages you send yourself?

Some are probably helpful; some probably not.

“Save 10% and give 10%.” Good message. “I get up, get
out, and get going.” Good message. “I love fruits and
vegetables…I love to exercise…I love to create time to
focus spiritually.” All good messages.

But, not everything we tell ourselves is helpful. We may,
almost unwittingly, program ourselves for failure by allowing
perpetually negative messages to run wild in our minds.

“I’m always tired.” “I just can’t seem to make myself exercise.” “I could never do that” (that, being anything that is good, but seems out of our reach).

Take a moment to think about what is draining your cup. Listen to your deafeningly quiet inner dialogue. What message is perpetuating your failure?

Identify it and replace it.

Try something like this. “It’s okay for me to receive a sense of peace.” “It’s okay for me to exercise and eat healthy foods.” “It’s okay for me to…” (fill in the blank with something that is good and good for you.)

Granted, it may take a long time before you believe yourself. But eventually, you will begin to be offended by those unnecessarily limiting messages and learn to replace them with life-giving messages. Perhaps you’ll work on this your whole life, and even request some professional help with the process.

But if your life and perspective improves, won’t you have much more to give to the other people around you? It’s okay. You have permission to turn bad messages into good.
