Have you ever done what you don’t feel like doing so you’ll feel better?
You know what I mean. For many of us, the thought of exercise, home repairs, financial record keeping, and a ton of other “maintenance” items are almost NEVER what we feel like doing. But once we complete these dreaded tasks, we feel better about it. We’re glad we did it.
That’s the joy of maintenance!
As a bonus, consistent and timely completion of an array of “maintenance” items builds discipline, which yields freedom of all sorts.
Our souls require the regular maintenance of spiritual focus and receptiveness. Our bodies need a clean diet and consistent exercise. The work we do runs more smoothly when we proactively execute routines rather than working in a reactive mode. To be sure, our homes function best with seasonal maintenance, and the people in our homes and in our lives are best nurtured through consistent time and attention.
Will you do this flawlessly? Unlikely.
But, in one or more of these areas, is there something that you don’t feel like doing that might just cause you and someone else to feel better?
Just do it, and receive the joy of maintenance.
Worth Repeating
Discipline yields freedom.
-Well, I say that.
