The atmosphere boiled over with enthusiasm and intensity. My ears were ringing, and everywhere I looked, people were yelling, cheering, and clapping.
My Father-n-law and I were enjoying an NBA basketball game, with our OKC Thunder beating the Portland Trailblazers.
As Portland attempted to narrow our lead with a free throw, we once again noticed that crazy guy with the mask, the cape, and no shirt to cover his portly belly, working his suspenders behind the basket to distract the shooter.
Upon first noticing this gent, you turn your eyes because they hurt. Then, you look again out of sheer fascination. Last season during the playoffs after one of the cameras zoomed in on “no shirt, mask and cape man,” one of the network commentators offered this remark: Somewhere there’s a mother just shaking her head.
Indeed.
But I will say this for him. His enthusiasm is contagious, and his passion is obvious. In costume, he goes by the moniker, Superfan Thundor. He really cares about Thunder basketball and appears to live with a well-defined purpose and passion to support Thunder basketball.
So, what are you passionate or enthusiastic about?
Wait…I’m one step ahead of you. No, your purpose or passion will most likely not require a mask, cape, or going scantily clad in public. For that matter, you may not even need to yell, scream or laugh hysterically.
But you might. You might get a bit goofy talking to your child or grandchild (there’s something to be purposeful, enthusiastic, and passionate about). Your engine may rev when you work on designing, creating, or sharing something you love. Or perhaps you know that your purpose is to encourage or help people.
Maybe it’s been a while. You could be in a rut. But you don’t have to stay there.
Take some time to think about what or who you are passionate, enthusiastic, and purposeful. Then, get after it! It’s contagious.
Worth Repeating
It’s faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes a life worth living.
