“You have got to be kidding me!” I said once again.
In the course of 5 weeks earlier this year, we experienced the following set of unfortunate events:
- I had another kidney stone (number six in my life).
- My wife had a gall bladder attack and gall bladder surgery.
- We had a slab leak underneath our house.
- Our garage door broke.
- Our kitchen faucet broke.
- Along with four or five other minor troubles.
Like many of you, we initially thought we would be done after the “rule of 3” had expired. But, around incident number five or six, we feared that we might be experiencing the “10 plagues!”
Granted, none of these things are really so terrible, but stacked up in a short period of time, they really wore on us.
At some point, we almost began to expect more bad luck.
Whether our expectations actually attract what we are thinking about or not, I can not be sure. But, I do know that there is a profound difference between living with expectations for good versus living with expectations for bad.
Expecting bad things to happen, whether done out of cosmic self-defense or having succombed to negative vibes, is not the way I wish to live. I generally sense that we find what we’re looking for.
Hence, even after a series of unfortunate events, I set my course each day in the direction of faith, hope, and love. And I expect that these will dominate my experience, perhaps even transcending problems that may arise.
Difficult circumstances do not make this easy. Still, I encourage you to join me in embracing hope and resilience!
So, what do you expect?
