Endings and Beginnings

Carving out a small block of time, she curled up in her thinking space. Reflecting on the year behind and projecting into the year ahead, she took her time. Her breath slowed and her muscles relaxed as her heart and mind attuned with the innermost stirrings of her soul.

Reviewing her written goals and notes, she deliberately relived moments and accomplishments such as these:

  • An hour of spiritual listening in a sacred spot in her city…what an important day!
  • The conversation she had in the hospital room with her father…never had such truth been spoken between them.
  • The rejuvenating experiences of a two day getaway with her husband…she was so glad she insisted on this trip.
  • Intentional lunches with friends; progress on some financial/legal tasks; and even some bills that they were able to pay off…these thoughts brought a contented smile to her face.
  • Work goals came to mind…and she allowed herself the satisfaction of having made progress.

She didn’t accomplish all of her goals for the year, but she had done well. Many things also happened that were not on her radar a year ago, as it always is.

Transitioning her focus to the year ahead, she started writing. She considered what she could realistically expect, while also challenging herself with specific steps forward in the arenas of spirituality, physical health, finances, family, adventure, work, and service to others.

Always careful to set herself up for success, she knew that weekly and monthly check-ins would be necessary. But these habits were life-giving, never burdensome.

As she wrapped up this important time, she was still relaxed. The world had waited. Now, she could re-enter the frenzy with renewed intention and appreciation.

Endings and beginnings. The turn of a new year calls for reflection and projection.

Worth Repeating
