Deliberate Slow Downs
When outside circumstances speed up, so do I. When they slow down, I do as well.
I envy the people who seem to operate slowly and deliberately in the midst of chaos. Maybe that’s you! Maybe it’s not. So, a few ideas:
1. Stop. Breathe. When the craziness ensues, close your laptop. Set everything down. Breathe in and out 10 times deeply, notice nothing but your breath. This should nudge you towards a more peaceful mode.
2. Escape. Walk out the door. Change scenery. Take a nap. Get away from the situation for 10-15 or more minutes. Then, re-engage.
3. Focus on one sticky note. If you have a list of too many things that you’re working on, turn the list over and write the one next thing you need to do on a sticky note. Do that one thing. Only that one thing.
Hurry is not peaceful. If you’re at your wits end and often frantic, try incorporating these 3 ideas along with your own tools for pursuing the peace of less hurry.
Worth Repeating
He who sows hurry reaps indigestion.
