8 Words for Those Who Care
She keeps going.
Her voice is soft. Her attempts at annunciation tend to leave her words slurred together due to the effects of Parkinson’s disease.
She walks slowly, precariously on the verge of a fall at any moment. The disease has progressed significantly over the years, robbing her of many functions that the rest of us take for granted.
Most people would have given up by now.
But not her. With what mobility and life she has in her, she just keeps showing up…to exercise group, LOUD crowd voice therapy group, and various educational events.
Sometimes she arrives with scratches and bruises betraying a recent fall, but she dismisses the pain and keeps going. Even though she appears to need help, she insists on helping and caring for others in the group at every meeting. Adversity is no match for her indomitable spirit. And even when she eventually succumbs one of these days to the physical degenerative effects of Parkinson’s, the disease still will not have defined her.
Faith, courage, and determination define her.
And I am thankful to witness such determination week after week.
Worth Repeating
The difference between the impossible and possible lies in a man’s determination.
