Better Questions #3

Change. You, like most people, probably enjoy the good changes and resist the uncomfortable ones. When navigating difficult decisions as things are changing, try reframing with this question: What time is it?

For instance…
*During an unsustainably busy few months at work, remind yourself that this is not how it always is…but this is what time it is, the busy season.

*Raising teenagers, you do many things outside of your comfort zone like paying excessively high car insurance, waiting up til (or past) curfew, helping them manage their moodiness, buying loads of groceries, witnessing many milestones and “firsts” like driving, etc. This won’t last forever, and it helps to remember that this is what time it is.

*Later in life, you may assess your health, finances, and ability to maintain living in your home of 50 years. Almost everyone resists making changes to your home life such as downsizing, moving to an assisted living, or having people come into your home to help. For many, it helps to recognize that this is what time it is.

Tough scenarios all, requiring multiple questions and answers to get through successfully. One question that may help put things in perspective could be: What time is it?

Worth Repeating
Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.
