Profiles in Resilience #3

Midge and John are two of the most resilient people I know.

John has been living with Parkinson’s disease for over twenty years. He has done Deep Brain Stimulation, all kinds of meds, and he keeps going…and well at that. John has expertise in music and has been an outstanding teacher, choir director, and more over the years. If you want to see someone living beyond their disease, look no further than John.

Midge lives with tenacity, passion and a strong sense of justice. Having worked as a teacher, she jumped into action with her friend Darla to start a local support group when their husbands were diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Over the years, she and John have done education conferences, Dance for Parkinson’s, LOUD Crowd, Ageless Grace, and much more while also encouraging and guiding others. She is a source of profound support to other caregivers.

Grit. When I think of John and Midge, I think of gritty determination in the face of adversity.
