Making Adjustments During Corona Season #2
Disorientation. Normal has been upended. Everything seems to have changed. And it changes daily.
You have probably experienced changes to your routines, habits, and people interactions. Whether you are highly organized or notably disorganized, you still operate with default habits and routines. The current season leaves you disoriented.
So, how do you get reoriented? Here are a few suggestions:
- Define what has changed. It may be obvious, but take a moment to list them out loud or on paper. Something about the acknowledgement and awareness of change helps us take the first step toward reorientation.
- What is in your control and what is not in your control? What can you do and what can you not do? Identify and define what you can do…and do that. Then…
- Give yourself a break. The move to reorientation may take a while. It’s a process. If you are able to rest, allow yourself to rest. These seasons in life are rare. If you happen to be a healthcare worker or a family caregiver and your load is actually dramatically more stressful and busy, cut yourself some slack on the things that are too much. You have permission to give yourself a break. Then, get back up and give it your best once again.
In the coming weeks, we will address ideas for acknowledging grief, fear, and agitation, while infusing more joy, confidence, and calm into our days. None of this is easy. But, you can learn to take steps in the right direction as you move courageously through difficulty.
