Making Adjustments During Corona Season #4

One of our most palpable and prevalent motivators is fear. It’s not necessarily the best quality motivator, but it does capture our attention.

A latent sense of unrest, anxiety, and trouble sleeping may be part of your new routine. To some extent, you have probably been experiencing a degree of fear over the past month or so. How long will this last? What will the repercussions be? What if I get infected? What if it is someone I love? How long can our business sustain losses?

These are all legitimate questions laced with fear.

So, how can you infuse your mind with renewed confidence in the midst of so many uncertainties? Not easily, to be sure, but allow me to suggest a few ideas:

  1. Acknowledge and Articulate the source of fear. This may seem silly, but when you take this action, you take back some control. Write it down. Say it out loud. Talk about it with someone you trust. But, get out of your head and into the open.
  2. Identify your options. What are your possible responses. Typically, there is more than one way to proceed, though our fear puts the blinders on us. When you explore the possible actions you can take, you almost always gain a sense of confidence that there may well be a way forward.
  3. Take action. You usually feel better about doing what you didn’t feel like doing, than not doing anything at all. Taking action does not always mean fixing the problem. Sometimes, it means managing the situation. But action puts the proverbial “ball back in your court.” If nothing else, you know that you asked the question, did the research, asked for a consult, or make the next move.

These are not the only three. You may find that prayer, meditation, positive flips, exercise, and many other moves help you regain confidence in the face of fear. Refuse to allow fear to immobilize you for long, even during Corona season. Make your next move in the right direction!
