Fresh Air
Just before dawn, I slipped my old kayak into the waters of Stinchcomb Wildlife Area.
For late July in Oklahoma, the 67 degree morning air invited me into its hospitable space. Gliding along the Canadian River, the mist rose from the surface, unveiling the beauty beyond each bend. Three beavers swam across the river in front of me in less than 30 minutes. Fish jumped and splashed. Deer grazed on the river banks. Cranes engaged in shallow water angling, their success interrupted by my quiet passing.
As the sun eased into the sky, the glow illuminated these tranquil surroundings. I didn’t see a single soul until I turned around to drift back down the river.
That is exactly why I do this. For fresh air. Peace. Renewal on the water.
Find your peaceful time and space and step into it. You’ll be glad you did.
