One word can make the difference

What if one word could change your mind? What if your whole posture toward a person, a job, or a task could be improved by adopting a new key word that resets your expectations?

When I was a young father, I thought of my primary role as provider. And, of course, providing is primary. But early on, it sometimes felt like a burden. So, I changed my word for my children to enjoy.

This simple, yet profound shift, relieved my burden and brought a renewed sense of joy to these relationships and to my role as father. Yes, I still provide. But, most of all, I enjoy them. I enjoy providing. I enjoy each phase of their development. I enjoy their evolving observations on life. I enjoy dates and adventures with them. I even enjoy their amusing teenaged barbs and sly remarks about their middle-aged father.

What one area of your life could you begin to enjoy by simply adopting this word to set the pace for your expectations? One word can make the difference.

Worth Repeating

When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.
