Love Story #2

The most unsuspecting scent, sound or scene can summon the rush…of love remembered. Perhaps you can identify with some of these vignettes:

The clouds opened and spring rains drenched her immediately.
She was still half a mile from her car, out for a walk in the park.
Mid-hurry, she slowed her pace and savored the influx of memories…
Unleashing the rich scent of the soil and the grass, this April shower ushered her back…
To holding hands, caught in a similar downpour, laughing, hair stuck to the side of her face…
In love.

That song came on and it took him back,
To another time and another place,
Immature but intense love,
And he wondered what might have been,
If she had lived beyond her youth.

Taking the cookies out of the oven and pouring herself a glass of milk,
She sat in her chair to savor this delicate pleasure,
And to recall their conversations in the evening hours,
When the day had calmed and faded,
And they sat and talked of big ideas, mundane details and common interests,
All in the name of love, and it warmed her soul to remember.

Evoking sadness, but also joy, memories of loves past may visit unannounced or with intention. Whether relatively brief, but romantic, or decades long with each marriage vow fully lived, these reminiscences stir deep within us. They happen whether we welcome them or not.

Dream of the future and live actively in the present. but know that sometimes it’s okay to indulge the bittersweet taste of love remembered.

Worth Repeating

No one can erase or steal those sweetest memories of love.
