Serendipity #1
Traveling across the western states to take my son to college at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), we stopped in Flagstaff, AZ. Having never been to this lovely mountain town, we looked up the best rated pizza place and eased our way downtown.
We were seated at a large community table right next to another party. Hesitant and cordial at first, we soon found that we had much in common. The older man owned a bicycle shop in Flagstaff and his daughter and son-n-law from Phoenix were much like us with two kids in college. In no time, we were talking about books and authors we had all read and easily shared insights and experiences on travel, parenting and other mutual topics.
As we concluded an enjoyable neapolitan style meal at Pizzicletta and walked to the car, my wife remarked, “I think we would like to be friends with them if we lived near each other.”
The community table that started with a sigh, ended with newfound appreciation. What a serendipity of the road to find intellectually stimulating new friends!
