Operative Words #1
Sometimes one word can change how you think.
Consider the word welcome. In context of something you want, try inserting the word welcome. Perhaps you want more money, a thinner waist, a sense of peace, new friends or just about anything. According to Ellen Rogin, “the word want is a synonym of the word lack. When you focus your attention on wanting, you become more aware of what you lack rather than of what you actually desire.”
Make the shift to welcoming whatever it is that you wish. With one word, you move from a hard, adversarial mode to a warm, relational mode. Your mental posture looks more like arms and hands open to receive rather than clamoring and clawing. Your furrowed brow softens into an easy smile.
Of course, there will still be effort and hard work on your part. Maybe even setbacks. This isn’t a magic trick. But, the mental shift to welcoming may very well help you reframe.
