Unexpected Paths to Happiness #2
Are you here now?
Whether you know it or not, you probably spend an alarming amount of your time like this:
…playing out future conversations
…wishing you were somewhere else
…deflecting imagined pushback
…longing for a better time
…anticipating, prognosticating, assuming
It happens…a lot. For all of us. And quite of bit of it is useful.
Yet, in the present moment, you may find an unexpected path to happiness.
…walking, listening and taking it all in
…getting fully absorbed in a fascinating conversation with a friend
…eating and savoring the food before you
…doing whatever you are doing at the moment you are doing it.
Try this. Wherever you are right now, look around. Do a half-smile. Take 3 deep breaths.
The half-smile guides you into a state of contented peace and joy. It’s quite nice, and good for you as well. Sure, you will still occupy your mind with many past and future moments, but nudge the needle a little more in the direction of the present moment. Happiness may meet you here.
Worth Repeating
Be here, now.
