Love #2
At last, my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
The opening words of the song At Last! capture so elegantly the sentiment that leapt within almost everyone who has ever known romantic love.
This ageless song was written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film Sun Valley Serenade (1941). Glenn Miller and his orchestra recorded the tune several times, with a 1942 version reaching number two on the US Billboard pop music chart.
In 1960, rhythm and blues singer Etta James recorded a version that most people remember best. Since then, Celine Dion and Beyoncé have also had chart successes with the song.
Enough about the song, do you remember the feeling that resonates with the lyrics? If you have been fortunate enough to experience this, even if it was decades ago, take a moment to be grateful. None of us lives in a state of constant bliss, but moments and seasons of bliss are to be cherished.
How can you be appreciative for love today?
Worth Repeating
Love is a friendship set to music.
-Joseph Campbell
