On occasion, I am genuinely inspired by people I meet.

Recently, I listened to a married couple talk about their
life situation at a Parkinson support group. He is living
with Parkinson’s Disease. She has continuing hip problems.
So, they don’t get around as quickly as they once did.

On their 54th wedding anniversary, they brought cake to
the support group. A really good cake. Not leftover cake
from their party either. This culinary masterpiece was brand
new!

As they served the cake to each member of the group, I
observed their smiles of deep contentment. They truly relished
in this moment to serve and spread joy.

As members of the group thanked them and commented on this beautiful experience playing out before us, they laughed and caught each others eyes with sly, but still romantic looks.

Attempting to deflect some of the praise, he began to talk about how slow they walk. “But,” he offered, “we stagger along together.”

She squeezed his arm and winked at him with a sparkle in her eye that seemed as vibrant as it must have been 54 years ago.
Worth Repeating

A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.
