When is the last time you just sat down and thought? Or, walked and thought?
Too easily, I find myself driven by the “to do”list. Of course, it does help me accomplish goals. But, as my day fills up with worthy tasks, the well of creativity and clear thinking often begins to go dry.
Did you know that Thomas Edison (one of the most productive people ever) is reported to have gone fishing most days with no bait on the hook just to stare at the water, clear his head, and think?
Whether this season of your life is dominated by children, career or caregiving, I recommend that you create a space and time to sit and think. In this intentional moment, you may gain clarity in a complex situation. You may relieve some unnecessary stress or suddenly realize the solution to a problem.
(Of course, you may just get stuck thinking too much. But, we’ll talk about that next week.)
If your life is reeling rapidly, stop. Sit and think. Be still. Pray. Listen. Receive.
Worth Repeating
Meditation and water are wedded forever.
-Herman Melville
