The morning air already felt hot and sticky as I sat under my pergola, listening to the fountain and some chattering from a strange looking bird.
Staring into the distance attempting to wake up, I noticed our outside cat, Pepper, scamper up the fence. For at least 10 minutes, he sat in a position on the fence where my backyard and next door neighbors’ fences meet mine.
I watched Pepper as he surveyed at least 8 backyards. In his normal spots by the fountain, in his house, in the kids’ clubhouse, on top a certain clump of monkey grass, under the grapevine, and other spots where he regularly lounges, his view is limited. He can only see our yard.
But, from this corner perch on the fence, his view expands. What was he watching? Other cats? Early morning rituals of the neighbors? Not sure. But, I am certain that he could watch for danger, beauty, and opportunities.
What are you watching for? Have you expanded your vision recently by getting away from normal and taking a fresh look around?
If not, I encourage you to re-position yourself to watch for danger, beauty, and opportunity.
Worth Repeating
To change ourselves effectively, we first have to change our perspectives.
